If you’ve read any of my previous articles than you’ve most likely already come to realize that I’m not really a huge fan of the whole second chance banking concept. Sure, sometimes…and I mean sometimes, there really isn’t any other option for some individuals other than second chance banking accounts. It could be because of locations or other issues, but most often this isn’t anywhere near the case.

I’ve been in Chex Systems now for a little over two years, and during those two years I’ve figured out that the truth (despite what most tell you) is that you actually can find yourself a real FDIC bank in your area that does not use Chex Systems. Most often this is the case, and so second chance banking with they’re stupid monthly fee’s, and account use limits never have to be an option.

Why don’t I like second chance checking? Simple….

A). You almost always have a pay a high monthly fee just to maintain the account.

B). You almost always have withdraw and deposit limits set on your account.

C). Most of the time you can’t write checks or use a debit card, and the banks that do you allow you these privileges usually limit them heavily.

D). You’re often treated like a child because of your past Chex Systems history.

Do you see now why I dislike the concept of second chance checking so much? It’s a last resort option, and more often than not, it’s simply not needed. I’ve gone through the 2nd chance options in the past, and I’ve gone without a checking account for more than a year until I finally learned that there are plenty of real FDIC insured banks in my local area that I can open up accounts with.

So I’m simply trying to urge you to look for real free checking options in your local area before you go back and consider second chance banking. There’s no reason why you have to be treated like a little child by some stuck up bank just because of your past Chex Systems history.

There are plenty of other options for you… most of them in your backyard. You can have an ending that ends up with a totally free FDIC insured checking account, and not some spin off checking account with second chance banking.

Please don’t let Chex Systems or Telecheck get in the way of living a normal and happy life. It doesn’t have to be that way! There are many banks that offer checking and or savings accounts regardless of your situation in these systems. I’m still in Chex Systems and have two checking and savings accounts with the works at real FDIC insured banks.
