Don’t Get Ripped Off By Crazy Fees - How To Save Money At Your Bank

30 Dec 2010

Most people will take their weekly or monthly paychecks to the bank and deposit them. Some people do this manually while others now have it all done electronically. When you are banking, it is all too easy to overlook the costs of being at the wrong bank. Some places charge you for everything, and that wastes your hard earned money each month. Find out a few things that you can do that will help you save money at your bank.

Make sure that you have a true free checking account. This should come with a free check card and have no minimum balances. Some say it’s free checking but you must have more than $600 in the account all month long else you get charged a monthly fee. True free checking sometimes even offers you a few free checks each month. Use your check card for most of your purchases and checks when you need to for other things.

Don’t ever go into the negative on your account. There will be an overdraft fee. These typically are about $20 to $30. If you do overdraft and realize it the same day, go to the bank and deposit cash. This should post to your account balance immediately unlike a check. Talk to the bank and ask them to remove the overdraft. You might be told no but many times they will remove it for you understanding your position.

If you go to your bank location often, make sure that it’s close by. You could find the perfect bank with no fees but if it’s many miles away, you will lose money in the gasoline spent traveling to it. You might save more money having a bank close by with a higher cost just because you don’t have to waste gasoline.

Try to get cash from your bank when visiting for your cash needs. Many will constantly hit up ATM machines and get charged the small fee. Be more proactive and get all your cash without a fee at your bank saving some money.
